Sketchbook Pages.

I'm actually really unsure as to whether I would like to keep this blog going as I put so much time into Daisies and DMs and my illustration often goes down quite well there. However - until I've decided this in full, I wanted just to share a couple of images I've created recently.
I just love drawing floral details and even though this is much more of a spring time illustration these kind of doodles really help me to warm up for the day.

CAT SKULLS AND DEAD ROSES. Halloween gives me even more of an excuse to draw these kinds of things.

Maybe I'm a stupid fool, chasing butterflies like you...

I adore autumn and wanted to create something really seasonal so this was my first attempt to do just that. What do you think?

Starting again.

Hello strangers. My last post here was in November 2014 and I can't believe how much has changed in that time. I wanted to update here though and keep this blog alive now that I'm feeling more inspired again.

It seems unreal to think that it's now been a year since I handed in all of my university projects. Next week will mark the one year anniversary of our degree show opening and it's been a strange year adjusting to full time work, no education, no projects. In December I began working in cosmetics which I love (I am of course a beauty blogger as well so no surprise that I love makeup) whilst the artistry side of it meant that I still felt I had some elements of creativity in my day job. I loved learning something new. The time has just flown by and whilst I have still been illustrating I've never felt I've created anything is worthy of rekindling this blog. But now, after a needed break things are feeling more fresh again and there are potential opportunities on the horizon.

This is a beginning stage of a blogger portrait I've been working on. I'm loving just freehand, fine pens, small elements of dot work; I've not been as fussed about colour.

Apologies for the poor scanning, clarity is poor at the edges as these are in a hardback sketchbook I've been using. These are designs I'm beginning to amalgamate for an entirely different project portfolio.
I've missed painting too so I thought I'd try some ink and watercolour to get back into it without chucking myself right in at the deep end. None of these are totally finished but you get the idea.

It's been really fun to write here again; hopefully it won't be another six months.

Graduation.

Hello all, long time no speak. I've been very much missing in action lately, scraping together all the hours I can at work to pay off the old student overdraft has left me with very little time or energy to focus on illustration. Job hunting is incredibly draining on one's morale, when all the graduate jobs require experience you haven't quite got because (ba-doom-tshhh) you've been at uni! Whilst I'm certain that I will eventually get back into my stride and be able to balance everything alongside my erratic work hours, this side of Christmas was probably never going to be a great time to begin and maintain a routine, and sometimes life does just throw up a curveball to dampen any previous plans (this isn't the only blog that has had to take a back seat due to personal commitments over the past two months!) I am hoping to make some Christmas cards for loved ones however, and tie together any loose ends before the year is out.

I do have some good news, however: I finally graduated! A week ago today I saw out my student days in a ceremony in the Southampton Guildhall where Sir Peter Blake was also awarded an honorary doctorate. I neither fell over onstage nor lost my hat (these were my primary fears) and altogether I had a really nice day. Here are a few of my favourite pictures from the day.

Overall, graduation has reminded me that I'm not alone, we're all struggling through these initial tentative months getting out there and trying to balance our craft with starting a new life as a working adult. It's lit a fire under many of my hopes and plans, now I just need to tie up all those loose ends so I can begin again.

Work in progress.

Sorry for an anticlimactic post last time! I do have some exciting news to share, I promise, but I've had some technical issues that have put things off a little bit. Stay tuned!

Once again I've been bitten by the illustration bug, after a summer where everything else has taken priority. It's a very natural feeling thinking about projects and getting excited about them, and it's probably because I'm finally settling into a job and can finally get into a routine again. It's nice because I work with other creatives, one of whom is also an illustrator, and seeing that they find the time to create alongside their job is encouraging, and now as I start to settle in I'll be doing the same.

Today I'm sharing a little work-in-progress. I'm feeling out of practise and wanted to brush up my skills (for these other projects) and just create something colourful and carefree for practise. With this criteria in mind, the lady that immediately sprung to mind was Katy Perry so I decided to draw her - I'm still not sure if this looks enough like her, but I was happy enough with the line drawing so I scanned it in and coloured it digitally (I wanted super vibrant, no watercolours this time!) I'm quite pleased with the hair so far, and am hoping I will be pleased with this piece once it's finished. What do you think so far?

Happy anniversary!

I have some exciting news to share with you next week, but first I wanted to let you know I'm off away this weekend with my handsome man. It's our one-year anniversary today, which has come around so quickly, then it's his birthday on Sunday so looks like somebody's getting spoilt this weekend! Here's a mini portrait I made of the two of us for his anniversary card.
